Diana Gabaldon shares why you should reread the Outlander books
It certainly takes time to read each of the Outlander books. However, Diana Gabaldon encourages you to reread them to see how your opinion of them changes.
There are various types of Outlander fans. Some stick to just the show or they caught the show first. Others read the books and then watched the show. Others reread the books over and over again. And Diana Gabaldon shares her thoughts on those rereading.
Naturally, as the author, she loves that you’re reading and rereading her material. However, let’s be honest, she does hope that you have a life outside of the books! She has also previously shared other suggested reading for when you’re between the Outlander books and want to try something new.
But regardless, you’re going to return to the story of Claire and Jamie. You’re going to follow them through their lives, and it often happens to time with the release of a new season or a new books. With both of those coming up likely this year, it’s not surprising that more and more people are rereading the books right now.
Why is rereading so great? Gabaldon shared a Facebook post off the back of a post from Outlander Cast about rereading the books. It all links back to why she thinks some people find “The Fiery Cross” boring.
When it comes to rereading a few years later, our lives have changed. We’re at a different place in our views of the world or find different things important to us. Events that happen around us has a direct impact on how we view a book or a TV shows.
Something different will stand out in a reread. Or something that used to speak volumes to us now no longer really stands out. It’s not the book that has changed, but us as a person.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong if you just want to read a book the once, especially if you didn’t really enjoy it all that much. I can find rereading books tedious at times, but it does depend on the book. I also find it hard to find the time. There’s so much content out there and I want to be able to take it all in. I can’t read the latest Cormoran Strike novel if I’m rereading the Outlander books for what feels like the millionth time, for example.
However, it may be worth revisiting a book at least five or 10 years later. Things will have changed in your life to change your view of the book.
