Roger will sing songs from his own time in Outlander Season 5

We may not be heading back to the 1960s officially, but there will be a taste of the time period during Outlander Season 5. It’s all thanks to Roger.

Are you ready for a taste of the 1960s in the 1760s? That’s what you’ll get in Outlander Season 5. Roger will bring the music of his own time to the past, but don’t worry about too many Back to the Future issues!

During the STARZ winter TCAs, the cast and EPs of the series had a chance to answer press questions. TV Tango got them all, and one that came up was about Roger’s music. Hey, if he had an album coming out in August, I’d certainly be out there buying it. Well, downloading it on Spotify.

But I digress. We’re here to talk about the music that Richard Rankin will perform throughout Outlander Season 5. And yes, Rankin will perform everything. He sings and plays the guitar, and expect music from his own time in the very first episode of the season. It’s a language between the people from the future.

Naturally, Roger is going to have to be careful. There may be a few questions about the songs if he does too many of them, even though Claire did get away with the “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” during the 1740s when on the search for Jamie Fraser.

Those who have read “The Fiery Cross” know that Roger also sings a lot of the songs from the 1760s and earlier, too. He knows the music of the time and helps to boost the morale of the troops. He keeps saying that he doesn’t know what he can do in the time, but he’s the one that is able to keep the spirits of the men up through his music. And while it doesn’t look like Jamie can appreciate it (I’m still wondering whether Jamie can hear music in the show unlike the book), he does see what the music does for the men.
