Outlander Season 5 director spotlight: Who is Jamie Payne?
Jamie Payne is directing two episodes of Outlander Season 5. With those episodes confirmed, it’s time to spotlight him to see what to expect.
Okay, Outlander clan, we are officially welcoming a new director to the series. Jamie Payne is directing two episodes of Outlander Season 5: Episodes 3 and 4.
One of these two episodes will focus on the Beardsley storyline, bringing plenty of drama and tension. But what can we expect from the man behind the camera? Here’s a look at his previous work to see.
No stranger to STARZ
Jamie Payne has worked on STARZ projects in the past. In fact, he’s been the director on both The White Queen and The White Princess, both STARZ productions with one of those being a cross production with the BBC.
Payne knows how STARZ productions work. The episodes all have to be filmed in one go, allowing them to be completed before the season starts.
This won’t be that different to his work on British TV shows, either. The majority of shows are filmed and are release ready for the premiere date.
Experience in period dramas
The White Princess and The White Queen are both period dramas, but they’re not the only ones. Payne has directed The Alienist, a psychological thriller set in 1896 New York. He has also worked on The Bletchley Circle, Da Vinci’s Demons (another STARZ series!) and Call the Midwife.
Having experience in period dramas is important. He’ll understand the setting and the need for special aesthetics to make everything feel real; like that time period has been brought to life.
Multiple dramas
A drama requires tension, action, and thrilling rides. We’ve got a director who is up for the challenge. This is a man who brought Matt Smith’s final episode of Doctor Who, multiple episodes of Luther with Idris Elba, and shows like The Bill and Primeval.
He has a range of experience, making it clear that he’s going to be one to bring some brilliant episodes of the season. We’re ready for anything.
Co-Executive Producer experience on multiple shows
Jamie Payne also knows the work of the co-EPs well. He’s been a co-EP on multiple shows, including The Alienist and The White Princess. There’s no doubt that he will have been able to listen to the vision of the series and bring it to life, knowing what it’s like trying to bring multiple episodes of a series together.
Working on two episodes back to back will have certainly helped. But we’re ready for an exciting tale.
