10 Major takeaways from the Outlander Season 5 trailer
4. Claire develops her surgery despite “playing God”
The idea of Claire “playing God” comes up again. Brianna seems to think that what Claire is doing is wrong. However, is it ever wrong to try to save people? Throughout Outlander Season 5, we’ll see Claire develop her surgery. She wants to bring some modern medicine in a time when there isn’t enough. She’ll try to understand illnesses to find cures that suit the 18th century. Is that really wrong?
3. Jamie considers preventing a major battle
Jamie and Brianna discuss the ramifications of Jamie’s considerations to change history. He wants to stop a battle from happening, and I assume it’s the Battle of Alamance. This was a major turning point in the lead up to the Revolutionary War. Brianna makes it clear that it has to happen if America is to become America.
2. Jamie in a Redcoat opposite his friends
This is the moment that has everyone talking. Jamie stands on the opposite side of a battlefield to his friends. We get a glimpse of Kyle Rees’ John Quincy Myers and it almost looks like Fergus just behind him. Of course, they may not be on the opposite side to Jamie and it’s just some good cutting. It’s possible they’re the militia against the Regulators.
Either way, though, Jamie is with the British. There’s that jarring moment of Jamie wearing the uniform of the British Army. I’m still not sure how to feel (except for being excited to see how it all plays out).
1. The praying scene
There’s a moment in the earlier part of “The Fiery Cross” that I wondered about being included in Outlander Season 5. Claire sees Jamie in a small stream, praying. There’s a clip in the trailer that makes it clear this is going to be included. Jamie crosses himself with blood as he prays for Dougal’s guidance. I’m not sure Dougal would have suggested becoming a Redcoat.
