The Outlander Season 5 premiere will see a returning face. Samuel Collings will reprise his role of Edmund Fanning in the series. Just how will he be part of the first episode?
In fact, he’s going to be part of the first two episodes, according to IMDb. How is that possible? It’s likely all linked to the Regulators and the riots. And while I do take IMDb with a pinch of salt, it’s worth speculating that this is right considering “The Fiery Cross'” storyline.
Fanning, who was the man Claire operated on in the theater, was responsible for excessive taxation and political corruption. He is one of those responsible for Hillsborough, which is mentioned multiple times at the start of “The Fiery Cross.” Despite the focus of the premiere likely being on Roger and Brianna’s wedding, some of Hillsborough and the trouble with the Regulators are bound to come up.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Regulator riots, which saw Fanning’s home burned to the ground after he was fined just a penny per offense when found guilty. This would link to Jamie being called upon to start the militia. We could even see a flashback or just a general story of the events that happened from Fanning’s point of view, obviously with Jamie not really having much sympathy for the man.
It would make sense for this to only take up two episodes. Eventually, the militia will be disbanded. The threat against the Regulators will be put on hold for a while. It’s not going to take up the entire season considering so many other storylines to cover in Outlander Season 5!
