Outlander Season 5 sneak peek: What are we treated to in the opening of the season?
The Outlander Season 5 sneak peek is here. Fans are treated to the first four minutes of the opening, but what does that include?
While still to air on the STARZ channel, those with the app have been treated to the first four minutes of Outlander Season 5. It’s the sneak peek we’ve been waiting all weekend for, and most certainly hasn’t disappointed.
The clip isn’t officially up on STARZ yet, so we can’t share it in this post. However, it is online, and you can check it out on the Outlander America YouTube channel.
So, now that you’ve watched it, let’s breakdown everything from it. This is an opening to remember.
We start in the past, with a young Murtagh making his way to a very young Jamie. Murtagh has left Lallybroch and shares that Ellen has died. A solemn and silent Jamie just stares at his godfather, who promises to always have Jamie’s back. It’s a hint of a promise that may need to be broken in the future, as Murtagh and Jamie find themselves on the opposite side of the coming war. At least, for the time being!
Outlander then jumps to the “present day.” And I write it like that because it’s still in the past but the present day for Jamie. He’s helping Roger shave with a cutthroat razor. When Roger knicks himself, Jamie takes over, because he can’t have Roger looking bad on his wedding day.
Yes, Roger is getting ready for his wedding to Brianna, and we get to see the beautiful ring that Murtagh has made. It’s made of silver and has a similar design to Claire’s beautiful ring. You just know the silver comes from Ellen’s candlesticks, another connection to that flashback in the opening minutes.
There’s also a beautiful discussion of Roger’s lack of skills for the time period. He’s not suited for the past and fears he can’t provide. Clearly, this is something Jamie knows and isn’t impressed about, but he has to remember that Roger would easily provide for Brianna in his own time.
It’s a beautiful clip that certainly doesn’t disappoint. There’s a lot of hope from this for the rest of the season.
