Outlander Season 4, Episode 5 saw the returning face we’d wondered all season up to this point about. Here’s a look back at the ratings.

When I did the ratings look back for Outlander Season 4 last week, I somehow skipped over Episode 5. I jumped straight to the episode that saw Lord John Grey return. How could I miss the episode that saw Murtagh return? Well, I’m here with it now—better late than never, right?

The episode aired for the first time on Dec. 2, 2018. It would bring the reunion that we had wondered about. When the show kept Murtagh alive at the end of the Battle of Culloden and sent him off to the Colonies as an indentured servant, we knew there was a chance that he would show up when Claire and Jamie made a life in America.

Sure enough, the return happened in Wilmington. We got to know he was around first, with Young Ian looking for him to do a job. When overpriced, Jamie gave the “blacksmith” what for and then realized who he was speaking to.

But would it pull in the views? Of course it would! TV Series Finale gives us a look at the Live + Same Day ratings for the STARZ channel. The total audience was relatively steady, but it was the demo that would see a healthy tick up. With a 13% increase, it pulled in a 0.17 rating.

The rewatches are likely much higher. While this is a devastating episode for Claire, as she learns about what happened to Adawhei, it’s a beautiful episode for Jamie as he learns about Murtagh’s fate. Plus, we see the happiness in Murtagh’s eyes when he learns that Claire is back and she had a baby girl.
