2. Jamie’s talk of escape

As we open the scene at Wentworth Prison, we see Jamie and Taran discussing their lack of future. Jamie couldn’t possibly just allow himself to be hanged. He wants to escape — or at least die trying to escape.

It would all be for nothing. His legs are shackled, so there’s no way that he’d be able to run fast or far. However, he’s not willing to just give up.

That Fraser stubbornness stands out in this moment. It’s a stubbornness that continues, even when he’s chained to the stone wall in the basement.

1. Jamie only giving in for his wife

I have the utmost respect for Jamie Fraser in the moment that he gives into Black Jack Randall’s requests. He’s not doing it to make his life easier. He’s doing it to save Claire.

In fact, Jamie is sure that he’s going to end up dead the next day. This is something that he wants, feeling like he’d never be able to live with himself for doing what he needs to in an effort to save Claire. What he doesn’t expect is for Claire to do whatever it takes to save him from the gallows.

And through the whole ordeal, Jamie stands by his word. The screams are torturous but he doesn’t fight back from Black Jack Randall. He promises full cooperation and, even in all his pain, he lives up to that promise showing everyone the type of man he is.
