2. Claire disgusted with the women

I don’t often like Claire bringing her 20th-century morals into the 18th century and trying to force the people of the past to conform. However, this wasn’t a 20th-century moral. As the women belittled a person because she was overweight, Claire was just a decent human being, disgusted by their actions.

And then she brought up the poor in the streets of Paris. Claire certainly wouldn’t be the first to dislike seeing the poor. It wasn’t that she disliked seeing them but that she was disgusted at how they were treated. It’s not like Paris was the only place to suffer this but it was the first major city that she’d seen personally.

The attitude of Louise and her friends just showed the type of attitude the rich of the time (and even some of the rich now) had towards the poor. It’s a constant battle, even today, but I was glad to see that Claire didn’t just sit back and allow the women to continue to gossip and be so awful. And instead of pushing her opinions, she just walked away.

1. Mother Hildegarde looking out for Claire

While working at the hospital, Mother Hildegarde realized that there was something wrong with Claire. Seeing the blood, it was clear from the look on Mother Hildegarde’s face that she was worried. The bleeding wasn’t normal even if she did tell Claire that it was.

This was one of those relationships that I enjoyed seeing develop throughout Outlander Season 2. We had this chance to see someone looking out for Claire instead of Claire looking out for everyone else around her. Yes, Jamie and Murtagh look out for her, but it’s slightly different when it’s a motherly figure standing there.

Mother Hildegarde had a way with words, a way to comfort Claire. She encouraged Claire to rest, knowing that Claire would need her in time. Because of this, Claire knew that out of everyone, she could trust Mother Hildegarde when she started bleeding heavily while Jamie and Black Jack Randall dueled.
