5 best moments from Outlander Season 2, Episode 6
4. Murtagh trying to make sense of it all
With the truth, he had to make sense of everything in his head. This brings me to my next favorite moment in Outlander Season 2, Episode 6. He writes down all the years that Claire lived through and showed her it.
She explained two important moments from her timeline – her birth and the year she became a nurse. I find it poignant that she focused on these two moments. There were no mentions of Frank or about falling through the stones. It was just her birth and her “calling.”
And as he tries to figure out how much she knows, he makes one important statement. Knowing what will happen to the Jacobites is a burden and he has the utmost respect for her.
3. Claire’s herbology knowledge
As a way to make the wine unsellable, the Frasers and Murtagh come up with a plan to make it look like there’s a smallpox problem. That means Claire has to put some of her herbology knowledge to the test.
She manages to mimic the symptoms of the disease with a tonic and some stinging nettles – I’d still love to know how Jamie managed to put the nettles on the skin of the men, but we’ll overlook that for now.
Something I’ve always loved is seeing Claire doing what she does best. While I’d say it’s convenient that she was a nurse and had started studying herbs before her trip through the stones, it’s fun to see her put all her knowledge to the test. We get to see her do some good by trying to prevent the Jacobite rising of 1745.
Of course, it doesn’t work. Not only do we know that Culloden will happen the way it should, but this episode also shows how the Comte and Bonnie Prince Charlie decide to work around the smallpox problem. That leads to Jamie having to figure out something else to do.
