- 5 best moments from Outlander Season 7, Episode 8
I previously looked at his best moments in 2018. However, these didn’t take into account a number of excellent moments in the final handful of episodes of the season – and we loved many of them as fans. I’ve decided to look back at that list and see which ones still stand out and the ones that need adding into it.
These moments involve other characters. There are moments with Claire, Young Ian, Brianna, and Murtagh. There’s even a moment with Roger that stands out for me as a sign of who Jamie is as a man, a father, and a laird.
With all that in mind, it’s time to delve into the moments. Here are the top 15 Jamie moments throughout Outlander Season 4.

15. Sending Fergus to help Murtagh
There would have been a time that Jamie would have gone to save Murtagh himself. However, the moment in Outlander Season 4, Episode 8 showed not only Jamie’s maturity, but also his trust in a few select others.
Rather than try to warn Murtagh about the trap himself, he decided to send Fergus to do it. He showed that trust he’s gained for Fergus over the years – putting the life of his godfather into the hands of his adopted son.
This also showed Jamie’s ability to plan ahead. He knew there wasn’t time for him to get out there and back before Claire finished the surgery. So, he used the strategic brain he has.
14. The reunion with Jocasta
When Claire and Jamie decided they were going to make a life for themselves in the Colonies, they knew there was one place they would need to go to start: Jocasta Cameron’s. This reunion was everything for me. Jocasta couldn’t see, but she knew who she was holding onto – and she didn’t need Ulysses to tell her.
There was an emotion between them that made it clear they missed each other. Jocasta definitely missed her family. But we got this chance to see the respect and adoration Jamie had for his aunt – the only living member of Ellen’s family remaining.
13. Allowing Roger to beat him up (but also knowing when to stop)
When it came to the end of the series, there was a moment that I adored. Roger pummeled into Jamie for everything that had happened. And Jamie simply took it. He knew that he’d been the cause of Roger’s torturous journey and pain.
Yet, Jamie didn’t just take it all. After a while, he knew that he would have to bring a stop for it. Roger had dished out some sort of “revenge” and now it was time to move onto the rest of the situation. There was so much to cover and it was time to get into the details.

12. Carrying Claire over the threshold
When building the cabin, there was a moment we got to see. For the first time ever, Jamie was able to carry his bride over the threshold. He’d never had a chance to do this before, even at Lallybroch.
There was this moment between them. In a way, they were like their 20-something selves. Yet, there was also the maturity between them. It was clear the two were still making up for lost time.
11. Bringing the “bear” back
While the show changed the bear scene, it was one of the more enjoyable changes for me. This felt a little more realistic, especially for the show characters we’ve got to know.
But it wasn’t just the kill that I loved. Jamie took the bear back to the Cherokees. He shared what he had done and that it was never a bear in the first place. Everything started to come together in his head, as he realized that the Cherokee knew exactly who and what was attacking.
More importantly, Jamie had the chance to show that he could be a good neighbor. He just wanted a chance to build a relationship with the Cherokee and he managed to gain their respect through his actions.
10. Hunting with Willie (and protecting him from the Natives)
I’ve joined two moments together for this, because they are from the same Outlander Season 4 episode. We got a chance to see Jamie be a father to Willie without ever telling Willie the truth. However, I do think that there’s a part of Willie that now doubts things – remember, I’m a show-first fan right now!
Protecting Willie from the Natives was certainly a standout moment. Jamie admitted to being Willie’s father, even though Willie stood up saying that that wasn’t the case. However, it was the whole hunting experience that I adored.
Willie and Jamie got a chance to talk. Jamie admitted his faults for leaving – and why he left the way he did – while Willie had the chance to see Jamie in another light. He learned all about hunting and the uses of certain items from the kill. There was a chance to open up about his loss and his fears, something that Willie probably never thought he’d do.
There’s a lot of development needed for the two of them. I can only hope the show has a chance to offer it.

9. Finding Fraser’s Ridge
The love for the Blue Ridge Mountains was evident in Jamie’s eyes. While it was a cliché moment and I couldn’t stand the green screen that was up, we did get a moment of happiness and love for Jamie. No, it wasn’t the love he bears for Claire or his family, but the love of memories and nature.
It was clear that he wanted to remain here. He wanted this to become Fraser’s Ridge, but he didn’t say anything. In a way, this is a beautiful Claire and Jamie moment because Claire knew exactly what Jamie was thinking and feeling.
8. Giving Hayes the ending he needed
Like when putting a pet to sleep, Jamie was able to be there for someone who was reaching the end of his life. This wasn’t an ending out of choice. It was an execution and Hayes was scared. All he wanted was to see a familiar face smiling at him.
It was always going to be hard for Jamie to give him that, but he’d managed it. Out of everyone, Jamie was going to be the one to do it for his friend and Hayes knew that. Jamie always puts others first in their biggest time of need.
Jamie was able to push his own emotions to one side before Hayes was hanged. It was only after Hayes’ execution that Jamie turned away and sought his own comfort in Claire.
7. Admitting his jealousy to Claire
I know there aren’t many people who like Frank Randall, but I have a lot of sympathy for him. This is especially the case at the start. Frank never asked for anything that happened to play out the way it did. However, when it came to Claire returning, he was there by her side and he took her and Brianna in.
And in a way, that’s something Jamie didn’t like. Frank played a huge part in Claire and Brianna’s life. Bree naturally felt guilty for finding Jamie, leaving everything that was Frank behind. She held the weight of her last words to Frank in her heart and she’d been nervous about going to the past. And because of that, she was struggling with letting Jamie in.
Naturally, Jamie was going to be hurt and jealous of that. We finally got this moment where he admitted it all, helping to bring Claire and Jamie back together.

6. His reunion with Murtagh
There’s no way that this could have been left off the list! Jamie’s reunion with Murtagh was everything the middle point of the season needed. It was more than just a reunion between godson and godfather, but a connection to the times that had passed.
All Jamie had been able to do up to this point was hope and assume that Murtagh had survived time in the Colonies as an indentured servant. While Hayes and Lesley had returned to Jamie in Scotland, Murtagh hadn’t been seen since. This was Jamie’s chance to see that all his hopes hadn’t been for nothing.
Plus, we got to see Jamie stand up for his nephew at the same time. Jamie had no idea who he was talking to at first. The mixture of emotions all over Sam Heughan’s face were perfect. No words were needed.
5. That tearful goodbye with Young Ian
In the Outlander Season 4 finale, we said goodbye to Young Ian. This was Ian’s chance to become a “man of worth,” as he’d put it – something Jamie wanted for him at the very beginning.
Nobody asked Ian to do this. Jamie was the one that would offer himself as a trade for Roger, but Young Ian made a lot more sense. He was the one immersing himself in Native American culture, after all.
Ian didn’t ask for permission. He made it clear that this wasn’t up for discussion and Jamie respected that. We got to see his love for his nephew but also the respect of the man that his nephew had become, showing a lot of growth in Jamie’s character when it came to being an uncle.
4. Helping Brianna realize it wasn’t her fault
I know this is a moment that not everyone liked, but it was a way to cut out episodes of talk, which was necessary for a show like Outlander. There isn’t enough time to focus on one element like this, so it had to be sped up with the physical attack.
Jamie had the chance to show Brianna that she would never have fought Bonnet off. This was a chance for her to realize that it wasn’t her fault. She didn’t bring it on herself and had she fought, she would have likely been killed.
While I don’t agree with Claire telling Bree what Jamie went through at Wentworth, I did like that this moment opened up the chance for the two to talk about Jamie’s ordeal and their somewhat shared experiences.

3. Bee hunting with Brianna
After meeting his daughter, Jamie needed to find a way to bond with her. Bee hunting was the way to do that. We got to see him teach her something since Frank had already taught her how to shoot, and there was a chance for the two to open up.
I adored that Jamie never once spoke ill of Frank. As much as he was jealous of the man, he was also grateful. This man had raised Jamie’s daughter and there was nothing that Jamie wouldn’t give to Frank for that. After all, Frank didn’t have to do that and many men wouldn’t have taken Claire back after three years.
2. Meeting Brianna for the first time
This has to be one of the most highly anticipated moments of Outlander Season 4. Brianna and Jamie finally got to meet for the first time after everything that they’ve heard about each other.
It was a long journey for Bree up to this point, and her emotions were all over the place. All she knew right now, though, was that she needed the arms of her father. She needed to find him and that she did.
Jamie never once thought he’d see Brianna. He wasn’t okay with that, but he dealt with it. You could see the relief, adoration, and love he held for Bree the minute he found out who she was. The moment was everything from the books and there’s no doubt that it became a firm favorite for the majority of fans.
1. Giving Claire the new ring
There’s no other moment I could think of to be Jamie’s top moment of Outlander Season 4. There was just so much right about this moment. One of those “right” elements was the way that the ring was one of Ellen’s candlesticks. Both Claire’s rings have come from something that meant something deep to Jamie.
Plus, the ring was made by Murtagh. He knew the candlestick immediately, meaning this piece of work was something that meant far more to him. There was never a chance he’d run the risk of ruining this item.
While it was sad that Jamie’s ring was taken, I understood why that was the case for the TV show. It also made Jamie have a reason to give her a new and more permanent ring.
