15 best Jamie moments in Outlander Season 4
6. His reunion with Murtagh
There’s no way that this could have been left off the list! Jamie’s reunion with Murtagh was everything the middle point of the season needed. It was more than just a reunion between godson and godfather, but a connection to the times that had passed.
All Jamie had been able to do up to this point was hope and assume that Murtagh had survived time in the Colonies as an indentured servant. While Hayes and Lesley had returned to Jamie in Scotland, Murtagh hadn’t been seen since. This was Jamie’s chance to see that all his hopes hadn’t been for nothing.
Plus, we got to see Jamie stand up for his nephew at the same time. Jamie had no idea who he was talking to at first. The mixture of emotions all over Sam Heughan’s face were perfect. No words were needed.
5. That tearful goodbye with Young Ian
In the Outlander Season 4 finale, we said goodbye to Young Ian. This was Ian’s chance to become a “man of worth,” as he’d put it – something Jamie wanted for him at the very beginning.
Nobody asked Ian to do this. Jamie was the one that would offer himself as a trade for Roger, but Young Ian made a lot more sense. He was the one immersing himself in Native American culture, after all.
Ian didn’t ask for permission. He made it clear that this wasn’t up for discussion and Jamie respected that. We got to see his love for his nephew but also the respect of the man that his nephew had become, showing a lot of growth in Jamie’s character when it came to being an uncle.
4. Helping Brianna realize it wasn’t her fault
I know this is a moment that not everyone liked, but it was a way to cut out episodes of talk, which was necessary for a show like Outlander. There isn’t enough time to focus on one element like this, so it had to be sped up with the physical attack.
Jamie had the chance to show Brianna that she would never have fought Bonnet off. This was a chance for her to realize that it wasn’t her fault. She didn’t bring it on herself and had she fought, she would have likely been killed.
While I don’t agree with Claire telling Bree what Jamie went through at Wentworth, I did like that this moment opened up the chance for the two to talk about Jamie’s ordeal and their somewhat shared experiences.
