5 thoughts while rewatching Outlander Season 1, Episode 12
2. It was clear Jenny and Claire would become good friends
I adored Jenny and Claire’s relationship. One of the reasons I disliked Claire returning to Lallybroch during Outlander Season 3 was because Claire couldn’t be honest. The relationship with Jenny was damaged. I would have loved for Claire to just be honest about the whole situation.
However, it was clear from this episode that the two would become good friends before the 20-year time jump. Jenny was understandably defensive about Claire suddenly coming into her life. Not only was Claire outspoken and sticking her nose in where she wasn’t wanted, but she had married Jamie without Jenny ever getting to know her.
When it all came down to it, Jenny and Claire were alike. They also loved Jamie in their own way and just wanted to be supportive of him.
It was also clear that Claire and Ian were always going to make good friends. This should be important for the future if the Outlander writers have to change things.
1. Claire shows the skills her uncle taught her
There’s a moment when Claire learns about Brian Fraser that her past comes up. This is more than just a talk of airplanes and healing men during war. Claire has a chance to share her past with her Uncle Lamb.
While she may have never shown interest in the history Frank talked about, she certainly learned a few things from her uncle. When looking at the sword that belonged to Brian Fraser, she immediately recognized the engravings on the hilt as Viking.
It’s rare that we get to see this side of Claire. What I adore the most is that all of this is done without a voiceover, something I only noticed during the Outlander Season 1, Episode 12 rewatch.
