5 best moments from Outlander Season 2, Episode 1
2. Claire and Jamie figuring out their next steps
Some of the strongest moments of Outlander have been when Claire and Jamie have worked together. It’s been when we’ve watched them figure out a plan of attack, bouncing ideas back and forth.
That’s something we get at the end of the Season 2 premiere. Jamie wants to initially try to win the Battle of Culloden. He wants to take steps to fight against the British and win. When Claire points out just how much (more like, how little) she knows, Jamie realizes that fighting in the battle isn’t enough.
Instead, we get Jamie and Claire working out the next steps to help stop the war. And while there are so many moments after this, I can’t get over the way I feel when I see the two working together so well.
In fact, this continues throughout the episode, when Jared questions Jamie’s loyalty to the Jacobite cause. Jamie knows his best way of proving his loyalty to the Jacobite cause is to show his back, and Claire doesn’t pause to help him.
1. Murtagh unhappy with not being told the truth
I felt for Murtagh so much during this episode. He’s not a stupid man but he doesn’t get the honor of knowing the truth about who Claire is and where he comes from. We know now that he eventually learns, but I continued to love the moment in the premiere when he points out just how much he realizes.
Jamie and Claire need to con everyone into believing they’re Jacobite supporters, but Murtagh knows which side the two are really on. He’s angry that he doesn’t get to know the full truth of the situation. He gets excuses but not the full reasons.
Claire wants to be honest, but right now she can’t be. However, Jamie makes him a promise. I adore the look on Murtagh’s face, as he accepts this promise. He knows that he can trust Jamie.
