We’re in full Droughtlander swing and that means you’re looking for a way to get through the days. Rewatching and rereading is great, but what about listening? It’s time to turn to podcasts that are perfect for Outlander fans.
During Droughtlander, you’re likely rereading the books and rewatching the show. Some of you will look for other shows to watch or books to read. And these are great, but what about another form of media? It’s all about podcasts for Outlander fans.

I’ve touched on podcasts before, sharing my favorite Outlander-based podcasts. You can check them all out here. This time, I want to do something a little different. While I’m sharing podcasts that are good for Claire and Jamie fans, they’re not show- or book-based. Sometimes, you need to open your world to other forms of fiction or stories.
These are all podcasts I love to listen to throughout the year. They delve into other mystical or magical stories and many of them are based on real life. So, here are five podcasts I truly recommend listening to as an Outlander fan.
5. The History Extra podcast
One of the things that drew me into Outlander was the period setting. I love history and period dramas are my go-to. Whether it’s Downton Abbey, Ripper Street, The Tudors, or even The White Queen, I will delve into plenty of historical romance, historical fiction, and so much more.
The History Extra podcast is a must for those of you who are history fans. It’s all about real history from around the world. And each episode will bring in a guest, someone who is well-versed in their topic.
This isn’t just about events of the real past either. There have been episodes focused on TV shows that are set in the past. One of my favorite episodes was about Vikings and listening to the work Michael Hirst put into creating the series. I really hope there’s an episode with Diana Gabaldon or even the Outlander showrunners at some point.

4. Revolutions
One part of Outlander coming up is the American Revolution. However, Claire has also mentioned the French Revolution in passing. There have been many revolutions and rebellions over the years and its time to find out more about them.
Revolutions is a podcast that is worth checking out when this is the reason you’re reading the books or watching the show. If you don’t know much about the American Revolution and want to catch up on your history before delving into Books 5 and onward, you’ll need this podcast.
This isn’t a podcast that just touches on a revolution in one episode and then moves on. The French Revolution gets 50 episodes on the topic and the American Revolution is still growing in size. This is a podcast that is about delving as deep as possible into the history.
3. The Story
If something you love about Outlander is the focus on strong and influential women, then you’ll want to check out the history podcast called The Story. This is all about the women in history and what they’ve done for the world.
They’re historical stories that you won’t have necessarily heard before. Many of these women are those who did great things and protected their families when nobody else would, but did it under the radar.
History is usually told from the victors. This is a chance to go into more lives and look at the extraordinary things that ordinary people did.

2. The History Chicks
Outlander certainly has a focus on strong women. Claire is the narrator of her story about Jamie and her family and now we’ve got a growing focus on Brianna, Marsali, and other women in the tale. It’s time to look at a podcast that offers some of the same focus.
The History Chicks is just as it sounds. It’s about the influential women in history. While there is certainly focus on women like Pocahontas and Marie Laveau, there is also focus on the fairy tales and where they came from. This will offer a look at the likes of Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood, making this history podcast something completely different from the rest.
This is going to be a podcast that delves into some women you may not have even heard of. Lives don’t always end positively but their impact on the world in the past and now shouldn’t be overlooked.
1. Lore
One of my favorite history podcasts has to be Lore. It’s even been turned into a TV series on Amazon Prime Video. Lore is different from everything else on the list. Aaron Mahnke tells the stories of some of the weirdest and scariest tales. If you get queasy easily, you may want to avoid this podcast.
It tells some of the darkest stories, such as people being buried alive accidentally and gravediggers who helped to push medical knowledge forward. You’ll learn about the stories of witches and superstition, of medical illnesses that had no diagnosis in the past. Of the curses people believed and the weird mysteries that remain unsolved to this day.
A large amount of research goes into each of the episodes. Each episode is a story within itself and you’ll be pulled into the world after just the first episode.
