3. Prestonpans

Now it’s time to turn your attention to Outlander Season 2, Episode 9. This is one of the strongest episodes, although there’s certainly a heartbreaking moment at the very end. When you want an episode that’s packed with action, there’s nothing that will beat “Prestonpans.”

As you would assume, the episode centers on the Jacobite Battle of Prestonpans. While Claire has a vague recollection of the information about this battle, she doesn’t know it all. Yes, the Jacobites win but she doesn’t know how or why. It’s up to Jamie to figure out how to lead his men into battle to ensure the same outcome.

Of course, at this point, they don’t know if they can change history or not, especially not when it comes to a major battle like this. Claire is worried that things could go wrong that leads to the Jacobites losing the battle.

That is until a son of a farmer shows them a way around the bog without being caught out by the British soldiers. They have their chance of winning this battle but it is at the expense of one of their own.

Yes, this is the episode we say goodbye to Angus. As much as we didn’t want to lose him, we knew all Dougal’s men would have to die eventually and Angus just happened to become the first.
