1. Delivering the bad news

Towards the end of the episode, Claire and Jamie got back to River Run with some bad news. As Brianna saw the two come up the path, she realized that it was just the two of them. Roger wasn’t there and her heart instantly sunk.

Claire stood out in this moment. While it was heartbreaking to watch Brianna (and I’ll get to her best moments tomorrow), we had this chance to see the emotions on Claire’s face. She’s never been one to hide what she’s thinking and that was clear in the scene.

She was grateful to get to her daughter, in awe at her grandson, but also sad that she couldn’t bring Roger home. By not having Roger, she knew that Brianna would be devastated — however, I fully support the idea of leaving Roger because it’s better to be immediately disappointed than him trying for a few weeks or months and then walking away.

Back to Claire, we had this moment of her being a mother again. There have been some gems throughout Outlander Season 4, and this was definitely one of them. She could comfort her daughter, putting her need to see and hold her grandson.
