3 best Roger moments in Outlander Season 4, Episode 13
2. Learning Brianna had been raped
After getting the chance to beat Jamie to a pulp, he finally learns about everything that happened as he left. Not only do we get a range of emotions as he finds out Brianna was raped, but we get the anger and disdain for Stephen Bonnet when he realizes it was Bonnet who did the attacking.
This was the captain that had sailed him across the ocean. More importantly, this was the Bonnet who had pulled him away from Brianna, so she had to go through the aftermath alone. While Jamie and Claire will hate Bonnet for what he did to Brianna and to them, Roger has many more reasons to despise him.
Yet, he also realizes that Bonnet could be the father of the baby. That anger and disgust is there again. Roger is sent through a whirlwind of emotions and it’s not surprising that he needs to take a step back and consider whether he can raise this child. If he hadn’t known the rapist, he probably would have just jumped in and claimed paternity but this was Bonnet.
The whole scene was realistic. While many may say that they would immediately accept the child regardless, in the moment, things would likely be different. And I don’t blame him for needing to stay away and think first, making his mind up before getting Brianna’s hopes up and then disappointing her if he chose to leave.
