1. His goodbye with Young Ian

As much as I loved his initial goodbye with Claire, I adored his goodbye with Young Ian more. This was an important part of the episode. Young Ian wanted to be a “man of worth,” linking us back to the premiere episode when Jamie initially wanted to send Young Ian back to Scotland.

We got this moment between nephew and uncle, almost like father and son. You could tell just how proud Jamie was, but also how sad and scared he was. With no idea what the Mohawk would do (considering what happened to Roger), it was understandable that Jamie would worry about leaving his nephew with the Natives.

However, he didn’t argue. The pride shone through, as Young Ian did something that Jamie was willing to do. The difference was Young Ian wasn’t giving up family and it did make more sense — plus, Ian can speak the language.

Ian is grown up now, and Jamie will remember that conversation at River Run when Ian made it clear he was staying in the Colonies. This was a continuation of this, showing us that Jamie was letting Young Ian be the man that he now is.
