10. Murtagh and Jamie’s reunion

When it happened: In Outlander Season 4, Episode 5, we finally got a reunion we didn’t know when would happen. While we knew Murtagh would return at some point in Season 4, it wasn’t clear when. It happened in “Savages,” as Jamie decided to give the blacksmith “what for” after cheating Young Ian out of money for a bit.

Why it was perfect: There was a mixture of emotions that made this reunion just so perfect. It all started with Young Ian going to see the blacksmith and having no idea who he was. There was absolutely no hint of knowledge, which was just perfect considering when Murtagh would have been captured by the British.

Then Jamie went in angrily. We got it all from Murtagh’s point of view, as he recognized Jamie’s voice straight away. Without a word, he turned and Jamie’s anger disappeared into shock, happiness, and relief. Both were just happy they’d survived the aftermath of Culloden.

9. Seeing Laoghaire’s side of the story

When it happened: Outlander Season 4, Episode 7 delivered a twist to the book storyline because Laura Donnelly wasn’t available. As much as I’d have loved to see the books play out, seeing Laoghaire’s side of the story was just perfect. It brought home the idea that there are three sides to every story. Up to this point, our view of Laoghaire has only been from Claire.

Why it was perfect: I know this is a moment many of you won’t agree with me on, but I always look at a story from a neutral view. Maybe it’s the former law student in me, but I like to look at a story from both sides, and Laoghaire’s side of the story in “Down the Rabbit Hole” gave us that chance to see her view of it all.

Meanwhile, we got to see Laoghaire as a mother. Up to this point, we’d seen her as a hateful and spiteful little madam, but in this moment, we got to see the side that Marsali and Joanie loved. She cared for her daughters and wanted the best for them, even if that meant marrying “a frog.”
