18. Brianna and Joanie bonding

When it happened: In Outlander Season 4, Episode 7, we got the first episode with just Brianna and Roger leading the story. Brianna’s part of the story was with the MacKimmies, where Brianna got the chance to bond with Joanie in the garden. Instead of working on the flowers, Brianna talked while doing Joanie’s hair.

Why it was perfect: Neither had any idea who each other were. Something that I loved is how much they just trusted and liked each other, purely because Brianna started as a lone traveler in the woods.

Brianna and Joanie had the chance to share how they were so similar. They both had a parent who loved the other more. Joanie had been able to see that Jamie simply didn’t love her mother and she was sad about that in a way any child would be. It also helped to set up the relationship for when Brianna would need Joanie the most.

17. The use of the Frank flashbacks

When it happened: In the same episode, we got plenty of flashbacks of Frank and Brianna. This was a chance to see Frank from another angle; the loving father who was in the middle of a crisis and devastated by news he’d learned. We saw how that affect Brianna and what his death did to her, but also that beautiful moment at the very end of “Down the Rabbit Hole.”

Related Story. Frank's flashbacks were the perfect addition to Outlander. light

Why it was perfect: There are three sides to every story: the two sides that are told and the truth. So far, we’ve only ever seen this story from Claire or Jamie’s points of view. The flashbacks were a chance to give us another view: Brianna’s.

We got to see the research Frank had done. The information he carried with him to his grave. And there was a chance to see the guilt Brianna carried, which would play an important part when Brianna and Jamie finally met.
