2. Refusing to make a murderer out of Young Ian

I know you’ll scream at me for putting the ending of the episode in this, but there are moments that really stood out for Jamie, showing who he is. When he attacks Roger, he’s doing it as a father. This is the man he believes raped his daughter — and he double checks with Lizzie first before he rushes off because he doesn’t want to get the wrong man.

The best moment, though, is at the end. As Young Ian asks whether he should kill Roger, Jamie refuses to let it happen. He’s not going to make a murderer out of Young Ian. In this moment, Jamie knows that two wrongs don’t make a right.

We know what happens next, but I just love that Jamie thinks carefully about the next steps after beating Roger. He doesn’t ask Young Ian to do something he wouldn’t want to be asked to do himself.

1. Bee hunting with Brianna

My favorite Jamie moment of the whole episode is during the bee hunting. He and Brianna have a chance to talk, which leads to Jamie admitting something that is easy to forget. Frank took Claire in knowing she was pregnant with another man. Sure, Frank may not have been the greatest husband, but he was a good dad to Brianna.

This is something Jamie is thankful for. Whether Frank knew that Brianna might go to the past or not, he treated Brianna as his own. There were constant reminders of Jamie, but Frank took her hunting, helped nurture a love for history, and gave Brianna the support she needed when necessary.

Jamie admits all that and is thankful. He makes it clear that he doesn’t want to replace Frank but be another person in Brianna’s life. This eases the guilt in Brianna while forging a bond between father and daughter.
