Claire spent most of her time in Outlander Season 4, Episode 6 treating Lord John Grey. She had some excellent moments throughout and here are her top five.

For most of Outlander Season 4, Episode 6, Claire had to put her personal feelings aside and treat her patient. That patient was Lord John Grey and it certainly wasn’t easy, especially when both were honest with one another.

However, these scenes led to some excellent moments. We got to see the vulnerability of Lord John mixed with the caring and nurturing side of Claire. The two found common ground — and not just their love for Jamie.

Here are my favorite five moments for Claire in the episode.

5. The moment outside with Jamie

While Lord John Grey and Willie stayed in the cabin, Claire and Jamie bunked outside. This was before they knew about John having the measles and it was the perfect time for the two to steal a few kisses. We also got that longing for one another.

Sure, it’s good to have guests, but after a while, you want your own bed and private time with your spouse. Jamie and Claire shared that moment, as they talked about what they would do when their guests would leave. They may be in their 40s (50s in Claire’s case), but they still have it and are clearly sexually attracted to each other.

More importantly, it was good to see that. There have not been many of these moments, so stealing one here and there is a positive thing.

4. Friendliness with Lord John Grey

At the very end of the episode, it’s time for Lord John Grey to move on. Claire has a smile on her face, as the two clearly said everything they needed to each other. With the truth out, Claire was able to see a part of herself in Lord John.

In a way, their lives have mirrored each other. John wasn’t completely satisfied with Isobel but stayed with her out of duty. Meanwhile, Claire stayed with Frank out of duty. She finally understood John’s need to see Jamie but the pain he feels each time.

And that was clear at the very end. Seeing her smile warmly at him as she bid him farewell was beautiful.

3. Trying to find a middle ground

Claire knows how the Revolutionary War is going to go. She knows the buildup is happening and the dinner table really shouldn’t be a place for politics. As Lord John and Murtagh found themselves at opposite ends of a spectrum, Claire tried to find some sort of middle ground to keep the peace.

It was clear she knew she had to toe the line, but that didn’t mean she was happy about it. She wanted to stand up for Murtagh but knew that she would have to be on the British’s side at some point in it.

While we got a woman that stood up for her beliefs, she was also one that managed to play peacekeeper of sorts. I’ve been waiting for this part of her character to shine through for a long time and I’m glad to see it at the dinner table.

2. Her banter with Murtagh

I loved the opening moment between Claire and Murtagh. They have fallen straight back into their fondness for each other, joking around in a familial sort of way. Despite all the time they’ve been a part, it’s clear that the two have meant the world to one another.

Claire makes it clear that she would like Murtagh to stay. While she mentions Jamie, it’s also clear that she wants him to stay for her (and even him). This is an equal friendship and Murtagh is always welcome.

And while she doesn’t know too much about the Regulators, she knows that the business is dangerous. It’s clear that she’s worried about what’s in store for Murtagh and his men in the future but she doesn’t know how much she can say.

1. The honesty with Lord John Grey

Both Claire and Lord John had a chance to be honest with each other. While Claire didn’t say who she was talking about, she did make it clear that she knew how Lord John felt; wanting something and not being able to have it.

There was also the honesty of why there’s an element of jealousy. It’s not outright jealousy that John has something of Jamie that she wants. After all, Claire knows that Jamie is her man and they’re soulmates. The jealousy is in the 20 years Claire and Jamie were apart.

She’s angry and, in a way, regrets some of the actions that led to Culloden. It’s clear if she could go back, she would find a way to change everything about Culloden — or at least Jamie’s part in it. John happened to be the man who got Jamie for most of those years and she’s jealous of that time.

The honesty was needed. We got a conversation that held a world of weight but was also enough to push forward with their own potential friendship — or at least an understanding.
