2. Hold me

After some fitful nights, unable to sleep properly to protect herself, Jamie returned. At first, Claire wasn’t certain who it was. Armed with the musket, she was ready to fire at an attacker. Then Jamie’s voice called out from outside.

And in this moment we got a beautiful and necessary reunion between them. Claire visibly relaxed and ran to her husband. She let it all show, knowing that she was safer with Jamie around. And it wasn’t just physically safer. She could finally let all that emotion from the night before out.

It’s been a long time that we’ve seen Claire need Jamie in this way. This was just as needed for us as well as the character and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

1. Her moment with Adawehi

I do wish that we could have had more scenes between Claire and Adawehi but time is short in Outlander. Plus, the character Adawehi is based on, Nayawenne, isn’t actually in that much of “Drums of Autumn.” Nothing major was cut out.

What we did get was beautiful. There was a chance to see Claire connect more with Adawehi. She learned some of the language and taught Adawehi a little English. This was just a chance for two nations to come together and cement the idea of this friendship.

Of course, it also led to the heartbreaking moment at the end; that realization the German man had killed Claire’s friend. Caitriona Balfe’s acting in that scene was just beautiful.
