4. Delivering the baby
At the very start of Outlander Season 4, Episode 5, we got to see Claire and Jamie getting ready for leaving to their respective places. Claire was heading out to another part of the Ridge to deliver a new baby.
This scene was absolutely beautiful. We didn’t get the birth but the aftermath, of Claire joining in with the German song to sing to the newborn girl. Then there was the talk of grandchildren and that chance to see a connection that had formed between doctor, patient, and family.
One thing that made this moment so beautiful was Claire’s attempt to learn the language. She has always been respectful of the differences and that’s something we got in this moment.
3. Attempting to make peace
As the Cherokees stopped to allow the horses to drink from the stream, the German family took offense. Screaming about how it was his land, the patriarch of the family and his son threatened the Cherokee with their muskets.
Claire put herself between the two. We got this standoff, as neither side would budge and Claire begged for the Cherokee to move on. The only reason the Cherokee did was because of Claire’s friendship with one of their own. Had it not been for that, things could have been very different.
This scene proved her wish to remain friendly with her Native neighbors. She also wanted to show that two nations could live side by side and that there was nothing afraid of. It set up the storyline that would lead to proving everyone can be a savage.
