2. Not treating Fiona like she’s daft

Fiona took a leap by telling Roger she knew about the stones. Sure, she knew that Roger had learned the truth about time travel and the stones, but she had no idea how he was going to react to her knowing the full truth.

Rather than try to treat her as stupid, he respected that she knew. There was that initial “what” but he wasn’t trying hard to hide the truth. This isn’t a man who can really keep a secret or lie to close friends and family.

This did lead to Fiona sharing more about her grandmother’s research. The whole scene with Fiona was powerful, especially as Roger learns that Claire and Jamie will die in a fire sometime within the next 12 years. There’s that debate over whether to tell Brianna or not.

However, it’s the way he treats Fiona throughout the scene that is just perfect. It shows the type of man that he is. At no point does he look down on her because she’s a woman. He treats her fairly and respectfully, showing the honor that he is despite him being a MacKenzie. That’s the Wakefield in him.
