5 reasons to watch The Last Kingdom if you love Outlander
2. There’s love, loss, and lust
The Last Kingdom definitely does not make its lead character into a saint. Nor is he the one with all the best tactics and the purest of hearts. Uhtred is a man with one goal and he will always do things that serve him. However, he does have a heart and will make sacrifices for family and friends along the way.
The story is mostly based on Uhtred’s journey for his ancestral home and Alfred’s need to join the whole of England. While you learn a little about some of the side characters, there isn’t too much time on them.
One of the greatest things about the show is the fact that the world isn’t black and white. There are times you’ll be angry with the leads, wondering why they’re making the decisions they are. Then there are times you just want them to win.
You’ll cry and laugh with them. There are constant tugs of war, as they try to make the best decisions for their people and their needs.
Uhtred isn’t Jamie Fraser but he can sometimes come close. As for Alfred…he’s a king that you can respect a lot, even when he’s in his weakened states.
