3. There are some amazing battle scenes

We get to see a lot of the way the Scottish clans came together during Outlander Season 2. Future seasons will give us the Revolutionary War since it becomes a point of discussion in the books. If you love seeing the strategic planning and the battle scenes, you’re going to adore The Last Kingdom.

Bernard Cornwell’s “The Saxon Stories” series offers up far more battle scenes than Outlander. There are plenty of shield walls and military tactics, showing the true nature of war at the time.

In the first season, the battle tactics are explained in detail. Uhtred spends time training Alfred’s army to fight against the Danes to help them win. Later, you just see the tactics come into play in the battles.

There’s plenty of mud and anticipation. You just never know who is going to win — part of the beauty of a fictional tale.

And if you want to see equality, The Last Kingdom is definitely for you. The Vikings were among the most progressive people of the past. Women went into battle and they could lead men. Brida is one of the best characters of the whole series for her attitude and abilities.
