1. Discussing Jamie’s wants

Claire is often viewed as a selfish character but I don’t think that’s always the case. Outlander Season 4, Episode 3 certainly painted her in a kind and caring light. She stood up for Jamie and discussed what he wanted.

One thing Claire has always known is what she wanted to do. She wanted to help people, whether it was as a nurse or as a doctor. Jamie is a man of his time at certain points in the story and this is one of those times: he was happy to do the job his father did. Over the years, he’s done other work and hasn’t frowned at being a printer because he’s good at it.

However, Claire wants to delve deeper. She wants to learn more about what Jamie wants to do. Will being a printer make him happy? Will it satisfy him?

Of course, the answer is no. Jamie is a man who loves to work the land and we’ve seen that time and time again. He also tends to be in his element when he’s fighting for a cause. He wants the beauty of the world around him.

In the end, Claire realizes that Jamie is in love with the view they have from the ridge. Despite wanting to be safe in a city, she is selfless in accepting they must take Governor Tryon’s offer. She wants to make Jamie happy because of all the sacrifices he’s made for her.
