2. Time wasn’t wasted on meeting people

Despite us getting to know Jocasta, Ulysses, Phaedre, and even Rufus, there wasn’t too much time wasted on it. The problem with Outlander Season 4’s premiere was that we spent a lot of time setting up where they were and who they were meeting. This is where it felt like a pilot episode.

Episode 2 did still include some setup but it was added to the story better. Everything blended more seamlessly.

When we met Jocasta, we learned with the Frasers that she was blind. We got to learn more about her through a conversation with Claire. Jamie learned more about the place and the laws to help understand more about expectations if he should take over River Run.

John Quincy Myers was introduced to help solve the problem with Rollo’s stench (poor, pup) and create a bond between him and Young Ian (I think that’s going somewhere for the Native tribes storyline) and then we got to learn more about Ulysses and Phaedre to get a better understanding of Jocasta, the plantation, and who they are as people.

The story gelled better, allowing us to feel more when Rufus’ story was explained. It all came together to help give Claire and Jamie a reason to move on.
