5 best moments from Outlander Season 4, Episode 2
4. Ulysses pointing out what will happen
While Jamie learned what it would take to free all the slaves, it’s was Ulysses that stood out for me. He made it extremely clear what the slaves thought at the time.
I know many would think “why couldn’t the slaves rise up against their masters?” Like with everyone else, the slaves would look out for themselves. They wanted to protect their own, which meant little uprising when a slave was murdered for breaking the law.
Ulysses also points out that Claire’s actions will be dangerous for all. While he may be impressed with her skills, it was a dangerous thing to do and he wishes she didn’t do it.
3. Arrival at River Run
Claire and Jamie make it to River Run and are in awe at the building. This is when both realize the life that Jocasta and Hector made for themselves, coming from Scotland after the Jacobite revolution.
What surprised me about this moment is that everyone was shocked, including the owner of the boat. He would have known River Run or should have at least heard of it, but he was surprised by the building.
Of course, the awe-filled arrival was quickly overshadowed by the realities of life on the plantation. It was even more overshadowed when Jocasta named Jamie as her heir.
