Outlander Season 4, Episode 2 certainly picked up the story and left us with a heartbreaking, difficult ending. Here are Jamie’s best moments throughout the episode.
Outlander Season 4, Episode 2 saw some beautiful but heartbreaking moments. This was an episode that focused on slavery, as Claire and Jamie made it to River Run. An intense episode that gave us plenty of drama and subjects to think about.
Throughout the episode, Jamie gave us humor, love, and maturity. Here are Jamie’s best moments from “Do No Harm” for #ManCrushMonday.
5. Commenting on growing up
When arriving at River Run, Jocasta commented that Jamie had grown so much since the last time she saw him. Of course, that led to Jamie bringing up the fact that he was a wee bairn the last time she saw him, so the only way to go was up.
This is just a beautiful moment between aunt and nephew. For those who hadn’t read the books first, it’s easy to assume that Jocasta would be everything like Colum and Dougal, strict and standoffish. However, Jocasta was welcoming and warm, and it was easy to see how relaxed Jamie felt being around someone so much like his mother.

4. Mourning the loss of Lesley
We’ve always known that Jamie blames himself of things that happen. In this case, it was obvious why he was blaming himself. He was the one who agreed to give Bonnet safe passage. Had he not done that, there’s no way that they would have been robbed.
Claire is able to talk him round, but this is a beautiful and bittersweet moment. Jamie is a man who will always take situations on himself. He’ll bare the blame so others don’t have to and takes losses of his men to heart. Plus, we got his guilt for having to bury Lesley in a shallow grave.
3. Talk of food to grow

Jocasta makes it clear that she likes the idea of having a man around who can talk business. This certainly proves to be a benefit when there is talk of the next things to buy for the plantation. Jamie uses his skills as a farmer to know what to grow on the plantation, proving that this part of the business is something that he can do easily.
There are two reasons this moment stands out so much. The first is that he can prove his worth and ability to run the plantation (and Jocasta is thankful for his input). The second is that it’s a brilliant throwback to where Jamie has come from. He’s worked the fields all his life and he is a man willing to do the work himself. Farming is his thing, and it’s important foreshadowing for later.

2. Trying to make the slaves free people
Claire refuses to own slaves. Honestly, considering the situation and law, I still think they would be better with someone like Claire owning them than whoever else could take over the plantation, but that’s a subject for another day. This is all about Jamie, who agrees with Claire that owning slaves is bad and decides to find a way to free them.
This leads to an important part of the episode — the reasoning why the slaves can’t be freed. This isn’t just about “this is how it’s done” but about showing the blocks put in place against Jamie freeing them. Not only does it take money and a good deed, but he’d need plenty of people around him who support those views and he doesn’t have them.

1. Finding a way to help the slave’s soul
In the end, it’s clear that the slave who Claire has saved can’t be allowed to live. If Jamie doesn’t deliver the slave to the angry mob, the mob will destroy the whole plantation. There are too many of them vs. Claire and Jamie.
However, Jamie doesn’t want to put this slave through unnecessary pain and torture. It’s Ulysses that helps them understand what they need to do next and Jamie works with Claire to take the next steps.
However, what I love the most is the prayer at the end. After Claire helps to save the slave’s soul, Jamie prays for forgiveness for them and to make sure the slave is looked after by God.
