2. Thoughts of Brianna

After dinner, Claire and Jamie talk about their plans for the future. Up to this point, they’ve thought about going back to Scotland. It’s clear that Claire would like to stay, with her own ties to the country. However, Jamie initially wants to head back to Scotland; to his home.

While they talk, Jamie acknowledges that where they are now will become Brianna’s country. He hasn’t raised her or had the chance to meet her, but he wants to be connected to her in some way. We’ve always known that he’s wanted to be a father and this is his way to do that.

1. Being there for Young Ian

One of the most heartbreaking but also heartwarming moments was when Young Ian suffered from the flashes of Geillis. He panicked and cowered away from the grave. Jamie was right there for his nephew.

While Jamie never told Young Ian what had happened to him, he did make it clear that he knew how Young Ian felt. He understood those flashes and that PTSD (although, of course, not called that at this point in time). Jamie knows what the past can do to the mind.

This led to a beautiful bonding moment between nephew and uncle. Young Ian had someone to open up to and it continued to strengthen this bond that Young Ian doesn’t have with anyone else. All Jamie did was listen without judgment, offering Young Ian everything he needed at the time.
