1. Why are Claire and Jamie on the wrong side of history?

It isn’t possible to ignore the fact that Claire tells Jamie they’ll be fighting on the wrong side of history again. She knows all too well what is going to happen–that the American Revolutionary War is coming and the Patriots will win.

Do they really want to consider changing that? Why would they want to prevent America from gaining its independence?

The truth is Claire doesn’t want to change this, so why would they even consider fighting on the wrong side of history? Why would they choose a fight that they know they can’t win?

Spoiler alert: It’s all to do with Fraser’s Ridge.

All this will eventually be explained. If you really want to know, eventually they switch sides but they need to be on the wrong side of history to begin with. This isn’t going to be another Battle of Culloden where they attempt to stop it from happening and then find that they have to see if they can change history by helping the Jacobites win.

However, it’s not going to be easy for Claire to be on the wrong side of history. Last time, it separated them for 20 years and Claire knows history can’t be changed. So, why try to fight history again?
