1. Jamie trusting Claire immediately

The tension in Jamie’s shoulders made it clear that he was scared of Claire’s reaction to the scars on his back. I loved that she was immediately a nurse. While she was curious about what happened and sympathetic, she didn’t show pity towards him. Her statements were more matter-of-factly, bringing in the reminder that she was a nurse in the war.

Claire would have seen far worse than this. She knew how it would affect people mentally. This was a woman who wanted to treat her patient more than anything else.

And it was that reaction that helped Jamie trust her. While he never actually told her exactly who he was, he didn’t hold back on some of the truth. There were secrets and not lies, something that he requested in the future, foreshadowing the type of bond and trust they would have.

My favorite moment was in front of the fire, as Jamie tells the story of what happened to get him arrested. We got to see it all play out in a flashback, getting a real sense of the drama and fear, but it was interesting that we got Jamie’s point of view of the story. Later we’d hear Jenny’s and what really happened in that house.
