2. The flash to Frank

I’m still now sure whether the flash to Frank in the 20th century is what he’s actually doing or just Claire thinking about it; imagining it. Either way, it works.

This is something the book misses because it’s from Claire’s point of view. We don’t get to see everything that Frank did to find Claire. It’s easy to assume but we don’t get that full story. So, for Outlander to show some of that in the TV series was an excellent way to add more to the story without completely changing the storyline.

Sure, this was to add Tobias Menzies to more of the show when Black Jack Randall wasn’t needed. Tobias was the one that sold the series for me at first because I’ve loved him in so many other shows and movies. So, having more of him when I didn’t think we’d get anything was exciting for me as a fan.

On top of that, we got a realistic look at what Frank would have done. He didn’t immediately get the police in. He and Reverend Wakefield headed to the stones, knowing that was where Claire was going. They found the car and then started hunting around for anything that could tell them where she was now.

Claire’s fears of what Frank worried about were also interesting and realistic. She worried he’d fear she ran away with another man, which was fitting for the semi-accusation in the Outlander series premiere.
