She trusted when she needed to

Being a strong female often makes it hard to trust other people. You spend all your time doing what you believe it right and looking out for others that you’re always on your toes. It wouldn’t be surprising if Jenny made it a habit to never trust others, especially someone English. But she did.

When it all came down to it, Claire was the one she trusted a hell of a lot. The midwife couldn’t get to Lallybroch for Jenny’s daughter Margaret, so she asked for Claire to be around. This was just within days of them meeting, but she trusted this new sister in law enough to get her to help delivery this baby that was clearly breach.

Then there was the moment when tracking. Claire wasn’t able to explain how she knew, but she knew there was going to be a famine. There was no way that Claire would let people she had come to respect and start to love die or risk starvation. She wanted to make sure Jamie’s family–her family–were protected and safe. Jenny could have easily just accepted the conversation and then ignored it, but she didn’t.

When Claire said plant potatoes, Jenny did. And this is another reason why Jenny’s later actions make a lot of sense. Without asking for a reason, Jenny believed Claire and did as she asked.

Outlander Season 1 Jenny has a big heart and is willing to let people in, but they have to prove they’re worth the risk. She doesn’t immediately warm to Claire but eventually, she trusts her. This is important for character progression in Outlander Season 3.
