Reason to go: He’d learn quickly

Sure enough, we’d see Jamie adapting to a new life in Outlander if he went to the future. While there would be a steep learning curve, he’d adapt quickly. He’s always shown his ability to adapt before.

It’s not like he doesn’t have experience in changing country and scenery. He’s dealt with some new technology (for the time) and a change of pace when he’s needed to. This is a man who has managed to get through life in and out of prisons, in an army, and with seemingly everyone against him. He’d learn quickly to adapt to the 20th century and that would be something intriguing to watch.

Reason to stay: Finding purpose would be hard

If you’ve read any Outlander fanfiction that takes place in the modern day, you’ll know that it’s not always easy for Jamie. He struggles to come to terms with the way the world is, especially the way it’s moved on with the development of technology. One of the common themes is Jamie finding something to do with himself.

In the 18th century, he’s needed. He’s skilled and a hard worker, which often helps him land on his feet. If he was in the 20th century, that wouldn’t be so easy. The world just isn’t the same and it could lead to a very different Jamie if he doesn’t have purpose. I don’t think many people would like that for him.
