#TBT: Interview with Sam Heughan discussing Outlander Season 1
Sometimes it’s fun to go back to past interviews and look at Outlander Season 1 with fresh eyes. On this #ThrowbackThursday it’s a look at an interview with Sam Heughan from 2015.
Back in 2014, the world was introduced to Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe as Jamie and Claire in Outlander Season 1. It’s now become an international phenomenon, recently renewed for its fifth and sixth seasons, with the fourth finale currently being filmed. But sometimes it’s good to look back and remember the feelings when the series was just starting.
For #ThrowbackThursday, I managed to uncover an interview with Sam Heughan when he talked about Outlander Season 1. While the video was posted in 2015, Heughan discusses the basics of the show and what it was like to film with his new co-stars, including Caitriona Balfe and Tobias Menzies. We get an insight into the preparation he did.

He also discusses the historical accuracy in the series–both the book and the movies. All this is based on real events in history and many fans are surprised at some of the details that pop up. After all, a lot of other historical fiction makes up some of the events or only uses the main facts as an initial base (just look at Philippa Gregory’s work and Reign for how historical fiction is often written).
More importantly, this is when Heughan didn’t use a wig for the filming. He has the red-haired curly hair in the interview!
For those who haven’t seen this interview before, it’s just a fun look into the past. In a way, you can feel like you were part of the series when it first came out. For those who have seen the Skype interview before, it’s just a fun reminder of what Heughan thought of the series when he was just starting to break out from the stage onto the screen.
