Jamie Fraser is the King of Men and on this #ManCrushMonday it’s time to look at his best moments throughout Outlander Season 2.
Outlander Season 2 was a big moment for Jamie Fraser. It was the season that would see Jamie take on the Jacobite rising, attempting to disseminate it before it began and then take over and try to see the Battle of Culloden end more favorably. Sam Heughan certainly showed us ever acting skill he had throughout the season.
Since it’s #ManCrushMonday and Sam Heughan’s birthday, April 30 is the best time to look back over the second season and find Jamie’s top five moments.

- 5 best moments from Outlander Season 7, Episode 8
While the PTSD storyline was something I rate, I’ll say now that it doesn’t make the list. That’s a top moment for Heughan himself in terms of acting, but not a best moment for the character Jamie.
#5. Giving Fergus his name
While we know Fergus as, well, Fergus now, he wasn’t always called that. You will likely remember in Outlander Season 3 that Jamie gives Fergus the name “Fergus Claudel Fraser.” That middle name is the name that Fergus had when he was in France. And it’s the naming of Fergus that starts off our top five list.
When Jamie caught Fergus in the act and gave him a job, he needed a name. Young Claudel told his future adoptive father his name, but it wasn’t Scottish enough for Jamie. He wasn’t going to use the French name and decided Fergus would be the best name.
He never does explain where the name Fergus comes from, but it is a strong Scottish name from the time. It was also a moment that made me laugh out loud while watching the second season.

#4. Meeting the king
Jamie meeting King Louis for the first time was hilarious. He wasn’t afraid to state his mind, while he watched the king attempt to do his business on the toilet. As Murtagh pointed out, only a king would need an audience to do such a thing.
While the king initially took offense at the idea of porridge, he did take the advice on board. It was also clear that he considered it even when he was on his privy.
This was a risky moment. Offending the king could have been dangerous, but he took on that risk with some humor.

#3. Taking on Dougal
When back in Scotland, Jamie starts to lead his men and turn the farmers into an army. That leads to him facing off against Dougal on more than one occasion. While many may have cheered at Jamie winning the final fight with Dougal in Outlander Season 2, it’s one of the earlier arguments that made me smile.
As Dougal pushed for training the soldiers in guerrilla warfare, Jamie knew that wasn’t the way to go. He knew that there was something positive and strong about the British way of fighting; in ranks and with discipline. Soldiers who learned to fight the British way were more likely to listen to and follow commands.
This moment also gives us development for Jamie. He’d previously shown he wasn’t afraid to go up against his uncle if necessary and this was his moment to continue that growth and foreshadow the final fight that would take place.

#2. Breaking his promise
While I completely understood Claire’s reasoning behind asking Jamie to wait a year, I could also understand Jamie’s side of the argument. It was a difficult situation for both. But this isn’t about that. It’s about the promise that Jamie would ultimately make and break.
Usually, I wouldn’t be happy about someone breaking a promise, but this wasn’t just a broken promise for the sake of his own revenge. Jamie had managed to temporarily put his own pain to one side. When he went after Black Jack Randall it was all because of Fergus. Jamie learned what had happened and saw red. He wasn’t going to let the guy just get away with something like this.
Breaking the promise was Jamie’s caring personality shining through. Even Claire knew that it was just who Jamie was in the end and decided to forgive him.

#1. Jamie’s ultimate sacrifice
Jamie could have run away from the Battle of Culloden, knowing all was lost. However, he was a man of his word. He wasn’t going to let his men go into battle without him. Murtagh also follows suit. What about Claire, though?
Our King of Men made a huge sacrifice during the end of the season. He opted to send his wife and unborn baby through the stones. He also made a point of stating that it was to give the baby a chance, knowing that Claire was pregnant even if she hadn’t said anything. Jamie didn’t just love Claire but tracked everything about her. He knew her cycles, took in the knowledge of the future, and proved to be a kind and caring man; a man not of his time.
That final goodbye scene between the two at the stones didn’t leave a dry eye in the place. Sam and Cait gave that scene everything and you could feel it in your bones.
