#4. Lord John’s reaction to Jamie giving himself in payment

When Jamie realizes that he needs to protect Willie, he knows he has to leave Helwater. However, he wants Lord John to protect the boy. Of course, Lord John agrees to this and Jamie offers him payment for the task. Jamie offers himself over to the man who has wanted him for years.

It’s a shock for Lord John, who reacts admirably once more. He refuses to accept a trisk with Jamie as payment for raising Willie as his own. However, he understands why Jamie would offer such a thing (and may have even figured it was some sort of test on Jamie’s part to make sure Lord John was still the same man he was at Prestonpans) and isn’t angry.

#3. The last Christmas together

While the change of timing was a disappointment, that last Christmas together was a beautiful moment. There’s no denying that it was a cute way for Brianna and Claire to say their goodbyes without the pressure. They were also able to easily discuss the plans for Claire’s trips, sharing gifts that meant something for Claire’s journey.

More importantly, it was a chance for Roger to show his love for Brianna. He’d listened to Claire’s tale of reading “A Christmas Carol” every Christmas and sought out the book. The two finished the evening reading the story together.
