#6. Margaret and Mr. Willoughby finding each other

While at the governor’s ball, Mr. Willoughby and Margaret Campbell set eyes on each other. It was love at first sight for the two of them. However, it wasn’t just this. The moments that followed led to this being such an important element of the show.

Mr. Willoughby wanted to protect Margaret. He wanted to show her love and kindness, bringing out the positives in her personality. It was important to him for her to be happy and content with life, and that was exactly what he was going to provide for her.

#5. Lord John learning the truth about Claire

When Lord John became the warden of Ardsmuir Prison he saw Jamie in chains. Instantly he remembered who Jamie was and knew that there was a debt to repay. Jamie also remembered Lord John.

As their friendship developed, Lord John learned the truth about Claire. He learned that Claire hadn’t been some damsel that needed protecting, but Jamie’s wife the whole time. John felt stupid for being played, but Jamie made a point that John was admirable. It was a moment that earned John respect from the man he was in love with.
