#8. The whole Battle of Culloden

There were some expectations that the Battle of Culloden would play out in the Outlander season 2 finale. When that didn’t happen, it was clear it would be in the premiere. Rather than just seeing the battle, we got glimpses of Jamie’s memories of the battle. Every scene was beautifully filmed, bringing out the way people remember events.

Everything was disjointed. The same memory would flash but with elements changed. There was also this chance to say goodbye to some important characters, especially Bonnie Prince Charlie (who got a final “mark me” in there) and Black Jack Randall (who went without any words).

Everything about the battle was on form and made it an extremely special opening episode.

#7. Mr. Willoughby’s speech

While attempting to kill the “Jonah,” Mr. Willoughby realized rain was coming. All he needed to do was stall the crew long enough and that led to his beautiful speech. While some may view it as sexist, it was an important show of his culture and the times.

His culture worshipped women. They were these dainty figures to be loved and cherished. As he shared everything that Scottish women weren’t, it was a look of how much he missed his home. It also foreshadowed everything with Margaret, which brings us to point four.
