Episode 13: Eye of the Storm

The last episode of the season just wasn’t as exciting as I’d hoped for. For the most part it held my attention. Then suddenly Geillis was stopped, Ian was saved, and it felt like it should have been the end of the episode. Yet there was still 10-15 minutes left. It was this lull and the storm on the ship just didn’t pick it up enough.

One of the things this episode showed was why the book couldn’t be taken scene by scene for the TV show. A book gets away with some dips and then more exciting moments. The pacing just doesn’t translate on screen as well. And the final moments were taken from the book.

It’s a shame, because the first part of the season was enjoyable. It tied up loose ends just right and the final scene set the storyline for the next season. It was just that lull after stopping Geillis that just didn’t feel right.
