Droughtlander is almost here, but a new drama is coming to Starz that may pique your interest.

The Outlander season finale will air on Sunday night. That means a few months of Droughtlander, as the break is known in the fandom. The good news is your Sunday nights may not be completely empty for long. The network is bringing new series Counterpart in the usual Outlander timeslot.

There’s even more good news. For those not sure about the freshman show yet, there will be a preview directly after the season 3 finale.

How are Counterpart and Outlander alike?

Of course, there is very little similar between the two shows. They’re both set in different time periods. One deals with the 18th century politics and the love story of Claire and Jamie, while the other deals with espionage and what could have been. However, it’s the fantasy elements that may draw the Outlander crowd in.

Counterpart is a story of parallel worlds. Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons) is one of the low-level guys in the Berlin-based United Nations spy agency. When he learns that his agency is protecting a door to a parallel world, his eyes are opened to the corruption, backstabbing, and distrustful nature of his agency. Suddenly he realizes that the only person he can really trust is his parallel world counterpart!

The show has a strong cast. Not only is Simmons in the lead role, but The Sixth Sense’s Olivia Williams, Captain America: The First Avenger’s Nicholas Pinnock, and The Imitation Game’s Morten Tyldum are all part of the 10-episode drama.
