Outlander fans will always have questions about the episodes they recently watched. The writers of the show answer those questions every Tuesday.
As usual, the Outlander writers took to Twitter to answer some of the burning questions from the most recent episode. It was all about “Heaven & Earth” on Nov 21, and unsurprisingly questions about rabbits, Lord John, and death on ships came up.
If you ever have any questions that you’d like the writers to answer, you can use #OutlanderALN. Every Tuesday the writers will look through and answer as many as possible.
The rabbit is a theme
As shared on Monday, the rabbit theme is a running theme throughout Outlander Season 3. This was something mentioned in the “Inside the World” featurette at the end of the episode, but now the writers have also confirmed it.
Viewers should expect more sprinkling of rabbits along the way. Will turtle soup change to rabbit soup? That’s highly unlikely but there will be some fun uses in various ways.
The script for the episode has been released
Every week, the Outlander writers also share the script from the episode. These scripts can lead to some fierce debate among fans, cast, and crew of the show. The main focus is to see where the deleted scenes are.
One fan asked if there would be the deleted scenes released. The writers shared a direct link to the script to view.
Researching the real history
Sometimes real history and events work their way into the episodes. While there’s no longer the focus of Prestonpans and Culloden, there is a focus on things that would have happened during the time. In Episode 9 there was the horseshoe and in Episode 10 there was the stitching through the nose.
During the episode, characters mentioned that the last stitch is done through the nose to make sure the person was actually dead. Did that really happen in history?
Claire’s penicillin wasn’t on the Porpoise
There are naturally many wondering about Claire’s penicillin from her own time. Did she take it on the Porpoise or leave it with Jamie? It would have been risky either way, but it turns out the Outlander writers did think of it. They’ve shared exactly where the penicillin is and why it’s in its current location. The question now is whether Claire will be reunited with it.
Adding in dialogue for characters
The writers definitely don’t have an easy job. They need to add dialogue that isn’t in the books to make sure they cover two sides of a story. This usually means adding in dialogue for Jamie, since the books are told from Claire’s point of view. Can this be more freeing or does it make writing extremely hard? Think of it like creating conversations for people in history when writing historical fiction.
Will the snake in next week’s episode be a CGI snake?
Sometimes the questions move onto the next episode based on the trailer. Fans may have noticed a snake slithering along Claire in the trailer for “Uncharted.” It turns out that it’s not a CGI snake. It’s very real!
There are surely many more questions that didn’t get answers. One of the biggest question fans have is where a certain English lord was. Will he show up in a later episode and how will this change the story? It’s something fans will have to wait to see when the time comes.
