Claire is pretty much forced into marrying SOMEONE who’s Scottish so that she becomes a Scottish citizen, by law, and therefore is not able to be detained and taken back to England by Black Jack. I’ve watered down that explanation, but there you have it.

The entire wedding episode makes up this moment, from Jamie’s dapper formal kilt to the vows to the wedding night. The whole thing is just… yeah…
