Outlander- Starz

Perhaps the greatest show of love and support in Season 1 (and book 1) is when Claire rescues Jamie from his own internal demons. If you don’t remember (not sure how you could have forgotten…) Jamie is raped and tortured by Black Jack in Wentworth prison. After his escape, he’s taken to an abbey where the monks and Claire help heal his body. His soul, though, is still lost for a long time.

He wants to die.

Every person handles trauma in their own way, and not every remedy will work for every case. But what Claire does- not letting him give up, not giving him the choice to push away. The way she approaches the situation is nothing short of miraculous. Her tenacity and will is admirable, and not something many people could pull off in real life.

I hope that no one ever gets to the place where Jamie and Claire went- having to deal with a rape and post traumatic stress- but what we can pull from that shared experience is that there are no hard stops when you love someone, only problems to solve. There is always an answer, you just have to find it.
