#5: Love comes with equality.

Outlander- Starz

It’s no secret that Claire and Jamie are, in their own eyes and in the eyes of their family, equals. Claire fights equality her entire life- from the 1700s to the 1900s between being a “healer” in 18th century Scotland to becoming a trained physician when she returns to her own time. She even battles with Frank, up until he dies, with infidelity and trust. That’s a recipe for disaster.

Jamie treats her with the respect and honor that she deserves, and in return, she does the same. There are times that each of them questions the others ability, but it’s very rarely (if ever) out of spite or disrespect.

Relationships should be bi-directional, meaning each person puts in the same amount and yields the same return. You have to be seen as an equal in your partners eyes.
