#7: The Fans

It wasn’t until I was much older that I realized what a big deal Outlander was. Remember, I got my hands on that first book (from a neighbor who was much older than me, but still young enough to want to be “cool”, and who probably *should not* have let me read Outlander as a young person) when I was 13. It was 2000; nine years since its release. The internet was new, and expensive, and took up a phone line. Even if I had known Outlander had a cult following, I’m not sure what I would have done with that information at the time.

Now, as an adult, I’ve met a lot of really cool people through Outlander fan pages and conventions. When I wear my “Je Suis Prest” shirt and people come up to me and ask me about my fandom, I get excited. And it’s exciting, too, to find others who are just as crazy obsessed as you are out in the world. It’s easier now than ever, and it’s a great escape from reality.

In fact, that’s what we hope this site can be. An escape, and a place to come together as a community. Welcome!
